About us

It’s a room that draws you in. It’s a home that envelops you. At Rust & Martin, we understand that true luxury derives from a thoughtfully appointed home. So we thoughtfully appoint yours, designing and executing your vision with exacting craftsmanship and personalized customer service. Our designers are prepared to oversee your entire project, whether it’s a single room or new home construction. For more than 90 years, this has been our signature way of doing things. Unlike other designers, we cover every facet of interior remodeling from planning to installation. It’s an ambitious challenge, but we believe it’s our business to think of everything. At Rust and Martin, we take care of every detail, so you don’t have to.

Our history

Rust & Martin began as a small re-upholstery shop during the height of the Depression in 1933. Wayne Rust and Bud Martin started the business in a garage. After Martin's tragic death in 1938, Rust continued the business under its original name. Expanding to include draperies and curtains, the business moved to 615 Broadway.

Despite a devastating fire on Christmas Day, 1950, Wayne Rust rebuilt the store, reopening in May 1951. Wayne's sons joined the firm in the following years, with Harry Rust joining full-time in 1956, bringing expertise from Southeast Missouri State University and the New York School of Interior Design. The business added furniture and accessories in 1958, creating a total decorating service.

By 1966, Rust & Martin had moved their furniture store to a 45,000 sq. ft. location at 760 South Kingshighway and repurposed 615 Broadway into a fashion store. The company earned prestigious accolades, including the “Chicago Market Daily Award” and recognition from House Beautiful magazine as a Pace Setter Store.

Today, grandson and ASID member Mike Rust upholds his grandfather’s dedication to craftsmanship and customer service. His keen eye and extensive expertise ensure Rust & Martin continues to offer luxury and professional guidance in every detail of their projects.

Rust & Martin is now located blocks from the Mississippi River in a historical building at 121 Broadway Street in Cape Girardeau, Missouri.
